
| ESO is pleased to announce the Award 2006 winners: www.mouthcancerfoundation.org (first prize) www.saonko.org/bh/ (second prize) Aim of the Award: The Cancer on the Internet Award 2006 focuses on the area of “e-cancer patients” of the New York Statement: e-cancer patients: The Internet is the cornerstone of the techno-cultural revolution that is starting to transform the nature of cancer control. Patients have been at the forefront of this revolution and many are now regularly using the Internet to obtain information about their disease and its treatment, seek support from on-line patient communities and support groups, share knowledge and experiences with other patients and to communicate with their professional carers and loved ones. |
The Award recognises a website that best meets the following criteria: The nominee In consideration of the impossibility to meet the global impact of the Internet, the 2006 Award was limited to projects managed by individuals or organisations resident in a European or Emerging country (the application deadline is passed - 15 May). The website - is created and managed with limited resources,
- provides information on cancer and its treatment in an organised, user-friendly manner, respecting users with low-band connectivity,
- disseminates clear, accurate, useful and updated information about cancer,
- is used to share knowledge and experience among patients,
- helps to improve the way cancer patients are treated and/or to avoid poor quality care,
- provides information that is understandable (by terminology and language) to patients,
- is preferably multilingual and multicultural,
- is innovative in its approach,
- is preferably HON certified.
Award giving The Cancer on the Internet Award 2006 will be given at the 3rd International Conference on Cancer on the Internet (9-10 July 2006, Washington DC, US) which the first and the second prize winners will attend. Prizes - 1st Prize: EUR 10’000; - 2nd Prize: EUR 5'000; and attendance to the 3rd International Conference on Cancer on the Internet; The 2nd prize was reserved to websites created and managed by organisations resident in an emerging country. Sponsor The Cancer on the Internet Award is an original initiative of the European School of Oncology and is funded by private donors. The organisation and promotion of the 2006 Award is made in exclusive partnership with Novartis Oncology.
